Dentures are a reliable way of replacing your missing teeth. Keep on reading this page to get a better understanding of the different options that you’d have in terms of dentures.

Cobalt Chrome Dentures vs Acrylic Dentures

Dentures can be made from different materials such as cobalt chrome and acrylic. The cobalt chrome type (which some also refer to as cast metal dentures or simply chrome dentures) is specifically constructed upon a framework of cobalt chrome metal alloy. Acrylic teeth and gums are then attached to this framework. Everything is held in place with clasps that are designed to clip on to natural teeth. That’s how these dentures maintain durability and strength.

Compared to bulky acrylic dentures, the metal in cobalt chrome dentures is significantly thinner and lighter. The base is also notably stronger, which makes cobalt chrome dentures more comfortable to wear and resistant to fractures. Furthermore, the clasps on acrylic dentures are set into the acrylic and become prone to either bending or breaking, which isn’t a problem when it comes to the cobalt chrome type.

Full and Partial Dentures

Dentures can either be full or partial. Partial types are designed to take the place of missing teeth in either your upper or lower jaw. They improve mastication (chewing) ability, and they also function as a placeholder to prevent your other teeth from shifting sideways.

Another benefit of wearing a partial denture is supporting an opposing full one. Let’s say, for example, that you have just a few teeth on your front lower jaw. If you tend to bite on the denture unevenly, that comes with risks such as tilting or unstable teeth. So partial dentures help counter those issues.
